Some Rappers Are Mad About Russ's New Shirt...But Why?

It's no secret that one of the driving forces of "being cool" these days in the mainstream hip hop community are drugs but it seems to be getting out of hand.

Recently independent artist Russ wore a shirt that expressed his views on the topic. Like a lot of people I wonder myself where this epidemic of using pills and lean came from, but then I turned on the radio. It's crazy to see things change. We use to celebrate the hustler now we celebrate the addict. Right or wrong. I believe it's now half and half and Chicago rapper Fredo Santana has confirmed that not only is it used recreationally but for depression as well. When will this begin to fade you might ask.... well Fredo had some words for Russ on that very concern.

Mental health is something that needs to be address in the black community and I feel like we don't take it as serious as it is. To say someone is a loser that turns to drugs to cope might be a step too far. There are deeper reasons that need to be addressed first, however I don't support using these things recreationally/promotionally either. Music moves people and until we start preaching these things in our music then it will never stop and that will always be part of The People's Plan word to Mozzy.
