Spirit of Detroit award goes to....Cardi B?!
Recently Cardi B was given The Spirit of Detroit award...you read that correctly. The Bronx native, who has not even received an award in her own city, was given an award from the motor city the other day and some locals are mad!
Kamal Smith, producer of Hot 107.5 in Detroit said Cardi B "is doing a lot for the city that the public may not know," and that she's "actually helping schools." Not every celebrity does good things to take credit in public.
Apparently this is a trend in Detroit that you don't necessarily have to be from the city to receive this award. Former recipients include Xscape, Dru Hill and even Bow Wow.
Royce da 5'9 was one of the main people that spoke out against the Bodak Yellow artist getting an award in his city. He even mentioned Kash Doll, a local female rapper, was a more deserving of the accolade. Check it out here.
A lot of people from the city have voiced their opinion about this and are not thrilled at all. Kash doll also gave her own opinion below and told Twitter she has received the award in the past.
Look, I get it spatiality sadly is no longer here but how do you expect your city to thrive and you not even representing your own cities artist? I get Cardi is running this "rap game" right now but she is not the end all be all. Stop with the foolishness and rep your own Detroit. Ya'll got too much talent and people doing good in YOUR CITY. Concentrate on home first.
