J.I.D + EarthGang: #NeverBeenShitTour

Never Had Shit Tour came just in time for Thanksgiving! This past week the two newest acts to J.Cole's Dreamville label ended the last leg of their East Coast tour and it was only right for J.I.D & Earthgang to end the tour in Atlanta. J.I.D hailing from East Atlanta and Earthgang representing the West side. Both acts went on to say "it feels good to be home". You can definitely feel the love for these home town heroes and their day one fans showed up and showed out making this a SOLD OUT show.

Before J.I.D and EarthGang hit the stage their opening acts set up the energy. Lute was the first to hit the stage who is also signed to Dreamville. The North Carolina native hit the stage with a very soulful presence and made sure the crowd understood him since he is new to a number of people. Following Lute was DC native Chaz French who recently just released a mixtape titled "KILL Volume 1: A DMV Original", which we featured on The Rap Hippies Instagram #FreshMusicFriday. Chaz French's stage presence was perfect as he continued to keep the crowd up. He yelled at each side of the venue from the left, center, and right side pumping them up. His crowd participation was done so nicely that he was able to successfully accomplish a mosh pit. Now think about the fact that mosh pits don't happen all time at a Rap/Hip-Hop show. It was pretty dope that he had the crowd participation to a T, especially as a new artist to the Atlanta crowd. Throughout the set he kept asking the crowd if they were ready for J.I.D & EarthGang . He definitely had mad love for the ones who put him on. This definitely was the perfect tour for him because this crowd, is his crowd, and I'm 100% percent sure he got some new and loyal fans. If it wasn't his music that caught them it most definitely was his performance. As it being my first time seeing Chaz French I was extremely happy with the performance given, there is no doubt this DMV rapper will make it. So I advise everyone reading this to go ahead and find dude on your favorite platform and add him to a playlist or two.

After the two openers we already knew what time it was. Earthgang hit the stage with their high energy and eclectic style. Johnny and Doctur Dot came out giving modern Outkast vibes. High dread buns and the infamous ski goggles. They went on to play a number of their old tracks before they got into their most recent project RAGS & ROBOTS released separately . They played old tracks from one of my favorite projects Strays and Rabies and the entire crowd knew every word without a doubt. With a set at about 30-45 minutes the Atlanta native duo had to do what they had to do to keep the crowd alert. As an easy crowd catcher they both yelled out, "Fuck Donald Trump". Instantly the crowd reacted and repeated the phrase brought to us by YG himself . After a few "Fuck Donald Trump" call and response chants from the duo and the crowd, they made the show a little more exciting. Within in minutes they introduced a live band to the stage to help with some tracks from Strays with Rabies, RAGS, and Robots. Ending their set it was expected that they end with their single, “Meditate” from RAGS featuring J.I.D which shortly opened up his set.

Coming on stage J.I.D was welcomed with the crowd chanting his name. You can tell this was a surreal moment for him. For J.I.D to be back at home and all his day ones chanting J.I.D was an amazing site from the back of the venue. Instantly he welcomes us with his fast cadence and real rap. It was ultimately a refreshing feeling and hearing him got me excited. The last rapper who got me excited about their overall music, and presence is now my favorite rapper Kendrick Lamar, so that speaks volumns. J.I.D continued to give the people what they wanted but did an even better job when he introduced another Atlanta rapper. The known DIY rapper Russ suddenly appeared on the stage and played his radio single “What they want” and everyone went crazy. He then announced that him and J.I.D are definitely cooking up something together. With Russ’s short time on stage J.I.D continued performing and went into one of my favorite tracks “EdEddEddy” and then a few other original tracks. Ending the show with his single “Never Had Shit” it’s exactly what everyone was waiting for and the perfect banger to end a dope ass show. He closed it out and welcomed the crowd to the stage along with Earthgang by his side.

With a little break from this tour, J.I.D and Earthgang will join J.Cole on a “4 Your Eyez Only” world tour, hitting Australia and New Zealand through December.

The #NeverBeenShitTour will continue in the West Coast starting in February. It’s one thing for sure they don’t stop and with one of the best rappers in the game co signing, J.I.D and Earthgang are on the right track to the top!
